Traveling Tips for the Caribbean
The Caribbean has been a favored destination for many travelers due to its pristine beaches, exotic coral reefs, spicy cuisine, and exciting carnivals. There are numerous luxury resorts and hotels on all the Caribbean islands. Most of these hotels are all-inclusive and family-friendly making it ideal for couples as well as families with kids.
Any vacation needs the right amount of planning to make it a success. Here are a few tips to prepare for a successful Caribbean vacation:
-The most important thing to do is to apply for passports in advance. Most Caribbean islands require passports for every family member. Some islands like St. Thomas and the rest of the U.S. Virgin Islands do not require passports for air travel in the case of U.S. citizens. It is ideal to book vacation details only after receiving the required passports to avoid cancellation of bookings and other inconveniences.
-Do some research on the hotel or resort you will be staying at. Its proximity to important points of interest, beaches, water sports, and other attractions needs to be kept in mind. There are many websites on the internet, which offer travel reviews for most of the well known hotels in the Caribbean. Many hotels offer special packages to suit the needs of various travelers. Discounts and other special offers are also available, especially during the off season.
-Always ensure that the hotel or resort has a shuttle service or some local transportation service. This will help travelers to easily commute within the island as and when required.
-During peak season (December to April) it is better to book at least 2-3 months in advance.
-It is advisable to carry part of your money in the local currency. Usually, the resort itself will have foreign exchange facilities. Most of the islands accept U.S. Dollars, however it’s a good idea to carry some amount of the local currency as well in the event that you wish to buy something from a street vendor who only takes local currency.
-The best protection travelers can get against medical issues is to have travel insurance while going on the trip.
-Wear lots of sunscreen, especially if you’re going swimming.
